July 28, 1899: “Providence Boys Join the Strike”

PROVIDENCE BOYS JOIN THE STRIKE

Providence, R. I., July 27 (Special)—A sympathetic strike was started here to-night by the newsboys. They refuse to handle the two New York evening newspapers with which their brethren in New-York are having a controversy. The papers which come here are nearly all sold on the street by newsboys, the majority of whom are Hebrews. There has been no disorder, because the strike has been general.
