About
Background information for the website (and the person who runs it).
Thank you so much for the information. Since the first time I saw the Newsies movie I wanted to know more about the real strike. This website has allowed me to read real newspaper articles about it… How cool is that?! Awesome. 🙂
need improvement
What part of the website needs improvement?
This is so helpful! I love Newsies and therefore whenever I have to do a topic on a historical event the newsboys strike is my first choice. Currently doing research for my second summative project about the Newsboys Strike of 1899! Honestly couldn’t do it without this site (or it would be much harder).
It’s been a very long time! Harlem, Millinger’s and so on are only accessible by the Wayback Machine these days. This is still an amazing website!
Mind lettin a pal know where ya get all those Phillip Marcus posts? It’s so interesting to read amd I’m dying to know if there’s any more or if I can get my hands on the source
They are part of the “American Life Histories: Manuscripts from the Federal Writers’ Project, 1936 to 1940” digital collection at the Library of Congress, and can also be accessed through the LoC’s American Memory collection. Abe Aaron conducted the interviews; he also spoke with others about different professions.

Hello. I am an eighth grader from Maryland. I am participating in a contest called National History Day with two friends. We are creating a website on the strike, and while researching, we came upon your website, which is a great help. Because you seem to be extremely knowledgeable about the subject, we were wondering if we could interview you, either over Skype, email, or some other platform? If you would be willing to do so, please let me know. Thank you.
“Conflict and Compromise” is a great theme for this year’s contest! I think the newsboy strike definitely fits well. Yes, y’all can interview me if it will help with your project. What format will work best (do y’all need to provide a transcript as part of your sources?)?
Hello,
I was wondering where you got the articles from the Evening Telegram. I have found digital archives with most of the other papers, but the Evening Telegram remains elusive.
I love the site and am very grateful to you for all your hard work assembling it.
I’m so sorry for the (very, very) late reply! The Evening Telegram articles come from https://fultonhistory.com/
